Graphite Capital Bursary Fund launched

1st October 2014

We are delighted that Graphite Capital, a leading independent private equity investor focused on the UK mid-market, has made £1m available to support estranged young people through our Enhanced Packages project.

The bursary will offer funding of up to £2,000 for young people aged 16-20 years old, who are struggling to live independently without adult support. The project aims to help young people back into employment, education or training while setting up their new home as well.  The funding will be distributed over 10 years, and we anticipate that it will offer life-changing support to over 600 young people.

“Thousands of young people across the UK are trying to live without the kind of parental support most of us take for granted", said Gerri McAndrew, Chief Executive of Buttle UK. "These 16-20 year olds are struggling to live on their own, but they do not choose this life lightly. They are forced out of their homes because relationships have broken down irrevocably, or the family simply cannot afford to keep them. Many have suffered abuse.

"The Graphite Capital Bursary Fund will offer hundreds of these young people, not just a lifeline, but a chance to make a better future for themselves.  We are truly grateful for their generous support.”

"Graphite is delighted to be working with Buttle UK to establish the Graphite Capital Bursary Fund. Through our experience in the social care market, notably within foster care, we became aware of the growing number of estranged and vulnerable young adults from the ages of 16-20, who do not have the support of parents or carers, and are often not the main focus of charitable activity. We therefore chose to target our Bursary Fund at this age group and selected Buttle UK as our partner.  We chose to work with Gerri McAndrew and her team as a result of their excellent reputation and track record in changing the lives of impoverished and vulnerable children and young people across the whole of the UK."
